Mathias defending champion this week

Mathias will this return to the Nationwide Tour as a defending champion of the Mellwood Prince George´s County Open. Last year Mathias won his first US title after running away from the field on the 36- hole final day. He shot two bogey free rounds of 67 and 65 to finish 19-under par."It is always a special feeling returning as a defending champion and hopefully I can play great this year also and fight to keep the title. The tournament is played on a different course this year, but I like the new course and everything just feels nice" Mathias told website staff on Monday morning.
The Mellwood Prince George´s County Open will this year be played at the University of Maryland Golf Course. 2010-06-01

He turned pro in December 1990 after having completed an impressive amateur career. Mathias enrolled into a Swedish golf academy at age 15 and quickly gained a spot on the Swedish Junior National Team. In 1988 he won the Swedish Boys Championship. He won the prestigious British Youth Championship at Southerness in 1990. During the same year Mathias contributed to the Swedish victory of the Eisenhower Trophy.Read more about Mathias
