Mathias shot a first round 73 (+1) and sits well back in the field. He is currently T111th and needs a solid round tomorrow to make the first cut."I actually played ok today, but I missed a couple putts and made a few mistakes that where costly" Mathias said after the round at Pebble Beach. Hopefully Mathias can post a good score tomorrow and move up the field. It is important for Mathias to get a good result early in the season.

He turned pro in December 1990 after having completed an impressive amateur career. Mathias enrolled into a Swedish golf academy at age 15 and quickly gained a spot on the Swedish Junior National Team. In 1988 he won the Swedish Boys Championship. He won the prestigious British Youth Championship at Southerness in 1990. During the same year Mathias contributed to the Swedish victory of the Eisenhower Trophy.Read more about Mathias
