QuestionHey Mathias how have you been, ive been playing a lot of golf, trying to get on one of the mini tours, any suggestions? Do you remember playing with me at the open qualifier for the bell-south classic at birch river country club?, any way, i hope all is well and kit, email me any time. your friend Kenny
    AnswerHi Kenny,
I remember us playing together and I wish you all the best in your career.
The only good suggestion I have is to keep working hard on your game and never give up.
By playing mini tour events you will be able to build up you confidence and get ready for the bigger tours and Q-Schools.

Good luck and I hope to see you out there!

  • What Happened in Mexico?

  • Prince George's County Open
    QuestionHey there Matty G!

Although we are off to a slow start, your Delaware fan club is getting fired up for your 2011 season. A couple of us are planning on coming down for the 2nd round of the PG Open in June and were wondering if you would be interested in grabbing a beer after the round.

Best of luck in Valdosta this week!

    Jim
AnswerThanks Jim for all the support and I hope to see you all at the event. I would love a victory there again!
  • Nationwide Tour
    QuestionMathias,

As one of you many fans here in Omaha, Nebraska, we were dissapointed to hear you lost your PGA Tour card. However, this may give us a chance to see you in person at the Cox Classic in Omaha on August 1-7. Will you be entering that event? If you do, my friends and I will buy you a beer.

    Fairways and Greens,

    Shawn
    AnswerHi Shawn,
Thanks for the email. The Cox Classic is in my schedule this year. I hope to play solid early and make it back quickly on the PGA TOUR.

QuestionHello Mathias - the Delaware Matty G fan club is checking in again...very sorry to hear about the injury. Given the fact that you will now be taking a couple weeks off, and with your current standing on both the PGA and Nationwide tours, what are your plans for the remainder of this season and the prospects for 2011?

Good luck and get well soon!

    Jim
    AnswerThanks Jim,
I feel alot better now and I did not loose much on the rankings as it was the FedEx Cup play-off. This week we start the Fall Season and I look forward to moving up the rankings, perhaps getting my first victory. Thanks again for cheering on my and  I will do my best to make you all proud.

  • Tournament downtime
    QuestionHello Mathias,

Another question from the 'Matty G' fan club in Delaware...we're curious how you spend your time off the course during a tournament. For example, you're teeing off at 1:30 this afternoon at the Wyndham - what will you do this morning to help prepare for the round? How do you unwind after the round is over? Any insight you can provide on the life of a tour pro would be very interesting.

    Thanks!

    Jim
    AnswerHi Jim,
    Thanks for the email.
I spend a lot of time reading or working out. I have always loved reading books and that makes me relax.
I also make phone calls, write emails, basically trying to catch up with family and friends.
Normally I try and be at the course about 2 hours before tee off, just to have time to eat and do my warm-up before the round.

Good luck with everything and keep cheering for me!

  • Ryder Cup
QuestionWe have developed a small 'Matty G' fan club here at work and closely follow his exploits on both the PGA and Nationwide tours. We're curious if Mathias has aspirations to make a future Ryder Cup team and what changes he feels he would have to make to his game and perhaps his schedule to make that happen.
    AnswerHi Jim,
I am very glad that you have a fan club in my name!!
Of course one of my goals are to play in the Ryder Cup and also all the Majors. I would love to be the first Swede to win a Major. To win a Major and to take part in the Ryder Cup, I need to improve my putting and also become more solid week to week. This is something I work on every day.

Thanks and I hope I make you guys proud.

  • Great improvement, Matthias!
    QuestionDeat Matthias,

Thanks for answering my recent question about your current form. I watched your final round performance at Renoe Tahoe and I think you are very close to a first PGA tour victory. You were by far the best player out there and would surely have won but for unlucky breaks on a couple of the the par fives and the final hole. Your driving was superb, and your putting stroke faultless. A great improvement in all areas and I hope you can carry it through to Canada... best of luck!
    AnswerThanks Paul,
I played good that week and like you said I was unlucky on the Par-5´s. I did not play that good in Canada but look forward to contending for the title at Wyndham Championship.

    Thanks!!

  • Thanks for the Generosity at the US Open
QuestionHi Mathias, I wanted to follow up and let you know that my family and I had a fantastic Fathers' Day at Pebble Sunday in thanks to your generosity of the passes. We truly enjoyed being (on the inside) and we created memories for all of us. Your caddy didn't end up calling me for a ride to SFO, but I was at the ready!

Again, thank you for being so kind and generous and best of luck to you at the Travellers.

    Warm Regards,

    Art
AnswerThanks Art, I had a great time too, unfortunately I did not play well in the main event, but hopefully next year I will be more successful. I am glad you enjoyed Father´s Day and I hope to see you soon again.

    Good luck in 2010!

    Jonas

  • Dreaming of Augusta
    QuestionDear Mathias -
I was wondering if you have ever had the opportunity to play Augusta National? I know you have the game to navigate around that difficult track. I'm sure the Swedish Golf Acadamy had provided you with the skills to play well at Augusta.
    Keep making birdies!!!!!
    AnswerHi,
    No, unfortunately not.
I have been invited a few times, but my playing schedule prevented me from going. Last year I actually went to the Masters as a regular spectator. I had a great time and hopefully I will play in the main event soon.

  • Cut
QuestionGood 66 last week. Don't watch much PGA stuff unless you are playing. Hope all goes well in Houston. By chance met Tom Watson two weeks ago at Hualalai. Seems like a nice guy.
AnswerThanks, unfortunately I did not play well during the rest of the event. Tom is a fantastic guy and a fantastic golfer!

  • Caddy
    QuestionWhat makes a good caddie?
AnswerLike in any job a good caddie needs to take his job seriously meaning, be on time, do your assignments in a proper manner. It is also a benefit if  you  have great experience of the courses we play on tour.

But perhaps the most important thing is the chemistry between the player and the caddie. The best caddies know what to do or not  to do in any situation without the player having to tell the caddie.

  • When are you coming back to the states?
QuestionHello Mathias - We here in Omaha, Nebraska are following your career with great interest. I was very happy to see you go deep in the first round of the Mayakoba. Was wondering if the tequila down there had any impact on your seconed round score?
I hope your back feels better!!! Keep making birdies!!!!
    AnswerHi Chad,
The Tequila had nothing to do with my golf in Mexico :)
I just received an invite for the Honda Classic and I will do my best to play well.
    My back is ok, thanks!

  • Current form
QuestionWhy is Matthias so inconsistent? Time and again he plays a good round then follows it with a really bad one, as in thew Mayacoba Classic on Friday. Is he still troubled by injury? I find it very hard to equate the recent US form of Matthias with his great performances on the European tour, where consistency was always his strong point.
    AnswerHi Paul,
I have battled a foot injury for a long time and that naturally has had impact on my game. I feel that my game has improved a lot since the time in Europe, however it is much tougher in the US and you simply have to play top golf in order to get the good results.

I promise you Paul, this year will be a great year for me!

    Thanks!

  • Foot injury
    QuestionMathias,
We follow the Euro's here pretty closely, and we are concerned with the foot injury. Which foot is it? I was watching the Pebble Beach tourney, and I noticed your weight shift seemed a bit off. Are the experts at the Swedish Golf Academy doing any swing analysis?

    Sincerely Dave
    AnswerHi Dave,
The foot is no longer a big problem for me, as long as I do my workouts and not playing too much golf at this moment. My swing was not 100 % at Pebble Beach so you might be right about my weight shift.

In Mexico I played fantastic golf during the first round. I really should have shot -8 (instead of -4). During my second round I had problems with my lower back due to a bad warm up.

I am not working with the Swedish Golf Academy after turning pro. Instead I work closely with my trainer and swing analysis is a normal part of the practice sessions.

Good luck with your golf game.

  • Foot update
QuestionMathias - I'm a big fan. Just wondering how your foot injury is doing? I know the Swedish golf acadamy has trained you well. Keep making birdies!!!!
    AnswerHi Chad,
The foot is ok, but not great. I am working hard to improve it though and hopefully it will not have an impact on my game this season. Yes, the Swedish organization is truly great and many other nations have learned a lot from it.

Good luck with your golf season too!

  • New clubs and ball
    QuestionHi Mathias,

Just wondering how your game felt with new clubs and ball on your first event for the year? What part of your game do you feel needs more work to adjust to the new equipment? How different did the new Srixon ball have on your game?

Best of luck on your next tornament!

AnswerWell, it was not the best of tournaments on my part, but it had nothing to do with the equipment.
I did not feel comfortable with my swing and the tough playing conditions did not help.

I simply need to work hard for a few weeks and hopefully everything will go well.

    Thanks
  • The big day!
    QuestionHi Mathias,

How's life in Hawaii? We here in Sweden are hoping that you play good enough to see on TV this weekend. Whats your impression of the course? How many rounds do you get to play before you start on thursday?

    Thanks and Lycka till!
    AnswerHi Adam,
I love the course and the way it is setup. Hawaii is a beautiful place and the event is a very nice stop on the PGA TOUR. I have managed to get two practice rounds in before we start on Thursday. My game feels great and I am excited to get the season started. This week I have my good old friend Bobby Collings on the bag and we have a fun time together on the course.

Thanks Adam and good luck with your golf game.

  • schedule
Questionhow many tournaments do you expect to play in 2010 ? Good luck

    Take care.

  • Life on tour
    QuestionHi Mathias,
Just saw your website for the very first time and it looks great.
It would be cool to see photos from "inside the ropes" and hear storys from life on tour.

Good luck in 2010 on the PGA TOUR.

    Take care

    AnswerHi Andy,
Thanks for the kind words. I will upload photos throughout the season.
I also hope to share fun storys and what happens during the tournaments.

  • Preparations for 2010
    QuestionMathias,
Congrats on a great finish to 2009. How have your prepared for 2010?

    /Thomas
    AnswerHi Thomas,
Thanks, I had a solid finish to 2009 and look forward to build on that in 2010.
This time of the year is when I get my longest break from tournament golf, but I have kept in shape and spent some time working on my short game. My first event is scheduled for mid january in Hawaii and I will begin hard training two weeks before that event.

Good luck with your golf game!

    /Mathias
  • Love to travel?
QuestionMathias - I here that some pros love the traveling to different events and some do not at all. What about you?
AnswerYes I do like to travel but when you go three - four weeks at a time I just can't wait to get home!
When playing on the European Tour travelling was more difficult as you go from country to country.
On the PGA TOUR many events are close to eachother and travelling distances shorter.

  • First tournament expectations
QuestionMathias - what are your expectations on your first tournament in Hawaii, Sony Open? Brand new clubs and ball! Is it a test to see how the clubs perform or do you always try to win no matter what?
AnswerGood question - thanks! Yes it will be both a test on my form after weeks of training and my new Srixon driver and irons. So far i love the feel and I seem to hit my irons 5 yards longer. Of course I always try to play my best, like all the other guys out there, and hope to win or be in the top 10.
