Mathias won his first tour event on US ground after fantastic play on Sunday. The weather delay on Saturday forced the players to play 36 holes on Sunday, however that did not stop Mathias. He was five shots behind going into the final 36 holes. A 67-65 finish moved him up to the top and his winning margin ended up being very large (6 shots).
"I can not be any happier right now. I have struggled so much in the last year. To win today is the greatest feeling on earth" Mathias told website staff on Sunday night.
"I simply played solid golf and my putter was hot today. Sometimes golf is just easy" Mathias continued.
Mathias looks forward to a very hectic week. On Monday he will play another 36 holes (The US Open Qualifier) and on Thursday he will tee it up at the St. Jude Classic (PGA TOUR).
Melwood Prince George´s County Open was Mathias 6th big win in his career. This is not his biggest win, but certainly one of the most important ones.

The event was delayed due to inclement weather and the second round is being completed on Saturday.
Currently the leaders are at -10, but most likely the leading score will be even lower, once the last players complete there second round.

Mathias did not win on Sunday, but he was very excited to finish T11th. His first solid week in a long while.
"I did not play perfect golf this week, but I worked my way into the tournament. My strategy was to play simple golf tee to green" Mathias said after the round.
"The course was set up for aggressive play, but I kept my cool and hit a lot of 3-woods of the tee, just to get the ball in play" Mathias continued.
Mathias shot 69-70 over the weekend and that was good enough for a T11th place.
Next week Mathias is an alternate, though hopefully he will make the field.
Zach Johnson won the Texas Valero Open after beating James Driscoll in a play-off.

Mathias finished T3rd in 2007 at the Texas Valero Open, so it is a place he likes to return to.

Mathias ended up T42nd at the Italian Open after two rounds of 70 during the weekend.
"I am glad to make the cut again, but I still have some work to be done before being back 100 %. My foot has felt ok during this week and I have also had time to practice. I hope to be able to play even better next week at the Texas Valero Open" Mathias said after the round.
"I hit my driver good this week and my mid iron were ok, but my wedges still needs improvement" Mathias continued.
After the round Mathias flew directly back to the US to celebrate his son´s birthday. Next week Mathias will play the PGA TOUR event in Texas.

Mathias shot 67 (-3) in his second round and moved up 45 places on the leaderboard. The solid round on Friday moved him inside the cut line and will play during the weekend.
It was a solid round with four birdies and one bogey. Three of the birdies came on the easier front nine.
"I am very glad to be playing good golf, yet still I missed a few chances out there today which I hope to make up for during the weekend" Mathias said after the round.
"I am still working hard to get back from my long rehab period, but it was great to make a move today and it feels like I am playing more solid golf each day that goes by" said Mathias.
Tomorrow is moving day and we look forward to seeing Mathias continue playing well and hopefully put himself in a good position for the final round on Sunday.

Mathias got a tough start to his European Tour visit. He shot a 74 (+3) in the first round and needs to shoot a solid round tomorrow in order to make the cut line. He sits currently in T107 position and the cut line is at +1.
"I got a bad start on my front nine and never got really back into it. Hopefully tomorrow I can get a few early birdies to get my round going" Mathias told website staff after the round.
"It´s funny, I played very solid golf in the pro-am on Wednesday, but today I struggled to get a momentum" Mathias continued.
Mathias will tee off at 8.30 AM on Friday.

Mathias arrived in Italy on Monday morning and will start preparing for the event starting on Thursday.
"I look forward to playing the Italian Open again. I am playing better and better golf so it was a simple decision to enter the Italian Open. This would otherwise be a week off for me since I am not in the Player´s Championship" Mathias told website staff on Sunday.
We will post more information about the event later on this week.

Mathias carded 69-73 during the weekend to finish T39th in his comeback. He was very happy to be back in tournament action and was fairly satisfied with the result.
"I have not been playing in a tournament for a while and naturally I was not hitting the ball perfectly, though it was a good start and I hope to build on this. I also felt ok in my foot which is great" Mathias told website staff on Sunday night.

Past week Mathias made an apperance on the Honda Classic Radio Show. Mathias spoke about his Q-school experiences and also how he has prepared for 2009 season
Mathias kept his nerves under control as he shot a 69 in the final rond of the PGA TOUR School Final 2008. This means Mathias will finish inside the top 25, who gets the PGA TOUR membership for 2009.
Mathias has battled injury all year long, to fight his way through Q-School is truly amazing. He struggled on the back nine of Monday, but kept his cool to make it to -19, which will be the number.
Not many players would have guessed that they would need to go as low as -19 in order to make it, but players really managed to play world class golf on the final day.
Website staff got a hold of Mathias right after the final round and he was very happy. "I felt very solid today but I never thought it would be this close. I made a bad bogey after a wrong yardage on the last par 5, though I drained a nice birdie putt on the next hole" Mathias spoke about his round.
"I will most likely celebrate tonight. To make it through the qualifier is simply a great feeling and I will build on this for next season" Mathias continued.
Mathias will now do rehab on his injured foot for the next few weeks. Qualifying to the PGA TOUR is most likely the best Christmas present he could have wished for.
CONGRATULATIONS MATHIAS!
