MG to play Puerto Rico Open

Mathias turns 40 this week, however the celebrations will be put on hold as he has entered the Puerto Rico Open. "I need to keep playing in order to get my game where I want it to be. Going to Puerto Rico will be great and I hope to play well" Mathias told website staff yesterday evening.

Be sure to check out the action on the PGA TOUR website.

Problems at Honda

Mathias received an invite to the Honda Classic and was looking forward to a solid round on Thursday.
Unfortunately his game was not at all working in the first round and he needed to sign a 77 on his scorecard. The Champions Course at the PGA National Resort and Spa is known to be one of the tougher courses on tour. To score well you need to play very solid golf overall and that was not the case for Gronberg.

Mathias carded two double bogeys in his round and his 77 was only good enough for T126th position.
To make the cut line on Friday he will need to shoot 4-5 under par.

Bad back stops Gronberg

Mathias was in a great position after the first round at the Mayakoba Championship, though a bad back in the second round prevented him from playing his normal golf. Mathias ended up shooting a +5 in round two, missing the cut by two shots.

"I did not do my normal warm-up and felt very stiff in my lower back. I was not able to hit with normal power and as a result missed a number of shots during the first nine holes. I will have to keep this in mind during the rest of the season. I am not 25 years old anymore" Mathias said after the round on Friday.

Mathias will most likely not make it into the field in Phoenix this week, but will have to focus on getting into the Honda Classic.
